Europe/Africa I: Serbia book their place in the BJK Cup Play-offs

The Serbians completed a perfect week in Oerias, Portugal with a 3-0 victory over Sweden on the third day of the Group I event.

 

Aleksandra Krunic and Mia Ristic did the damage in singles, with Lola Radivojevic and Nina Stojanovic sealing the win in the dead doubles.

 

Austria, Netherlands and Serbia will now all compete in a round-robin to determine the final positions but more importantly there is still one place in Novemeber's Play-offs up for grabs.

 

The three teams that finished in second place in the initial pool stage - Denmark, Latvia and Greece - will fight it out for the last remaining promotion place. With Jelena Ostapenko and Maria Sakkari both in action in Oerias this week, the competition is sure to be fierce for that last place.

 

At the other end of proceeedings hosts Portugal will be desperate to retain their place in Group I as the bottom three teams from the initial pool stage battle to avoid being one of the two teams relegated.

 

Portugal go up against Bulgaria and Norway in the next phase of the event.
